El Flamenco...es música, es baile, es una
manera de vivir...intensamente.

El Flamenco es una de las pocas músicas europeas de transmisión oral que ha continuado desarrollándose en los últimos
treinta años no sólo en España, sino también en Europa y en el mundo entero. Debemos este auge a la fuerza y la vitalidad
creadora que posee la tradición Flamenca.
Su patrimonio músical, elaborado desde hace cinco siglos y formalizado en el siglo XIX en torno al cante, el baile y
la guitarra, supone una riqueza melódica, rítmica y armónico-modal que no encuentra equivalentes en la Europa Oriental, pues
es precisamente en Andalucia, asi como en los Balcanes, donde los elementos orientales, zíngaros y autóctonos han formado
en la diversidad una cultura única y de alcance universal, que es a la vez arte de vivir y también música.
Pero los grandes estilos (soleá, siguiriya, alegria, tientos, tarantos, bulerias...) han evolucionado no solo en su contenido
musical sino también en el poético, es decir, en sus letras. Esa es toda la aportación de los grandes creadores del
flamenco contemporáneo como Paco de Lucia, Enrique Morente, Camarón de la Isla, Pedro Bacán o Moraito de Jerez, el haber renovado
las expresiones flamencas a partir de formas heredadas del pasado.
El flamenco también es el grito del pobre y perseguido. Los trabajadores, tratando de mantener a sus familias,
tuvieron que trabajar con mayor energia de lo que tenian en sus cuerpos, debilitados por la falta de comida y reposo, y derivaron
su energia del canto al rasgueado de una guitarra. El Flamenco es la Andalucia en las mentes de los poetas, pintores
y músicos, la Andalucia de los soñadores, quienes luchan para mejorar las vidas de quienes sufren.

Flamenco is...music, dance...it is a way of living...intensely!!
Flamenco is one of few orally transmitted European music styles. It has continued to develop during the past three
decades, not only in Spain, but in Europe and the rest of the world, as well.
Let´s talk about it´s musical ancestry. It was elaborated five centuries ago and formalized in the 19th century,
acquiring melodic richness, and a rhythmic and harmonic mode that cannot be matched in Eastern Europe. It is precisely
in Andalucia, as in the Balkans, that the eastern elements (gypsies and other ethnic groups) formed a diverse group of unique
culture, that took to it as its own music and as the art of living.
But the great styles (soleá, seguiriyas, slegrias, tientos, tarantos, bulerias..) have evolutionized not only in its
musical content, but in the poetic (lyrics) as well. All that is the contribution of the great creators of contemporary
flamenco as Paco de Lucia, Enrique Morente, Camarón de la Isla, Pedro Bacán, or Moraito de Jerez, having renovated the flamenco
expressions from inherited forms of the past.
Flamenco is the cry of the poor and the persecuted. The overexerted workers trying to support their families,
and debilitated by the lack of food and rest, derived their energy from singing to the strumming of the guitar. Flamenco
is Andalucia in the minds of the poets, painters and musicians. Andalucia is of the dreamers, who fought to improve
the lives of the suffering.
